Cornell men’s ice hockey came back from a tough loss to Clarkson last Friday night to win the next two games in the ECAC quarterfinals, and they’ll face Union in a televised late semifinal today in Lake Placid.
The 7:30pm game will be televised on American Sports Network, including on SportsNet NY, available on Time Warner Cable (Spectrum) in Ithaca on channels 24 and 320, and on TSN2 across Canada. (The early semifinal between Harvard and Quinnipiac will be tape delayed, and shown tomorrow.)
If you don’t have cable, or your cable package doesn’t include SNY, Uncle Joe’s Grill and Sports Bar on West Green Street gets SNY. They say if you don’t see the game on their TVs when you come in, just ask a server to set one of the TVs to show it.
Friday night’s 6-2 loss to the Golden Knights at Lynah Rink was the Big Red’s first defeat since January. They’ve gone 8-1-3 since the beginning of February, including a pair of 2-1 wins in games 2 and 3 of the best-of-3 quarterfinal series this past weekend.
Cornell is 3-0-1 in its last four meetings with Union, including a win in Schenectady to start last month’s action and a tie in Ithaca that wrapped up the regular season at the end of February. The two teams have met in the ECAC tournament in four consecutive years, with each taking a first-round series, and Union besting the Big Red in the 2014 semifinal, the first year the tournament returned to Lake Placid, on their way to a national title.
The Big Red’s most recent of a league-best 12 ECAC titles came in 2010, the last year the tournament was held in Albany. Cornell went to the tournament two of its three years in Atlantic City, but didn’t come away with the Whitelaw Cup either time.
