Rematch with Saints as Cornell women head north for ECAC tourney

Big Red women’s ice hockey skated to a 2-2 tie with St. Lawrence just two weeks ago, and Cornell will face the Saints once more in Saturday’s semifinal of the ECAC hockey tournament. The weekend’s games will be televised on ESPN3.

Cornell and St. Lawrence skated to a 2-2 tie on the last weekend of the regular season.

The weekend tournament, with a pair of semifinal games on Saturday afternoon and a championship game on Sunday, is at Cheel Arena on the Clarkson University campus in Potsdam. 4th-seeded Princeton will play #1 seed Clarkson in the early game Saturday at 1pm, and #3 Cornell will take on the Skating Saints at 4pm. The winners of each game advance to Sunday’s 2pm final.

The Big Red is ranked 7th in the nation, and the Saints are 4th. Each swept its quarterfinal series, with the Saints topping Yale and Cornell making quick work of Colgate last weekend. Each team had a shutout on Saturday on their way to a tournament berth.

Cornell is winless against St. Lawrence this season, with a 5-2 loss in January in Canton and last month’s 2-2 tie at Lynah Rink in Ithaca, but the Red is 5-2-3 over the last ten meetings. Cornell says this is the tenth straight year the program has made it to the ECAC tournament, and they have four ECAC tournament titles, in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014.

All three of the games will be televised on ESPN3, available online at or using the WatchESPN or ESPN GO apps on mobile phones, tablets, set-top boxes like Roku and Apple TV, or smart TVs.
