The summery weather may not last, but on this sunny and 70° day in February we can say we’ve beaten the all-time high temperature record, according to Cornell’s meteorology department.
Cornell University’s student meteorologists say the previous February high temp record at their Game Farm Road weather station was 67° from February 28, 1997.
The new record was set with the noon hourly reading of 70° on Ithaca’s east hill, a jump from an 11am reading of 65°.
Meteorologist Drew Montreuil from Finger Lakes Weather says this is the last day of the “extreme warmth” for the area. He says Saturday will be “a bit of a wild day as a cold front plows through, bringing an end to the warmth with a bang.” Temperatures will still be warm in the morning, but gusty winds and a rain squall are in our near future.
