Cornell University men’s and women’s lacrosse players are hosting their twelfth annual blood drive on Cornell’s Ithaca campus. The drive kicks off the 2017 “Save the Day” campaign for the Dream Factory of Central New York.
Blood donations usually drop off during the winter months, but the need for donated blood is often higher. Regular donations of all blood types are needed, but type O negative donations are especially helpful. O is the “universal donor;” that blood type can be given to nearly any patient. At this drive, blood donors with O-, O+, A-, or B- blood types can opt for a Double Red Cell donation, which can help even more recipients.
Donors always get a snack and something to drink to begin replenishing their fluids and blood sugar levels. This drive will also feature free t-shirts and Amazon gift cards for all donors, and Cornell lacrosse players will be on hand to greet donors and help with the drive.
Other upcoming blood drives in the Ithaca area include the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Ithaca’s northeast and the Groton Community Church on Saturday, February 11th, TST BOCES on Tuesday, February 14th, Cornell’s Willard Straight Hall on Wednesday, February 15th, and Ithaca College’s Campus Center or the Tabernacle Baptist Church on Thursday, February 16th.
The Dream Factory of Central New York helps to improve the lives of sick children. For more information or to request an application for a child, e-mail email@example.com or call 607-272-1264.
The blood drive is Thursday, February 9th, from 11am-4pm, in room G10 of Cornell’s Biotechnology Building. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are preferred. E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment.
