Sheriff clears white “person of interest” in CFCU bank robbery

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department says the man they sought to identify as “a person of interest” in last week’s armed bank robbery at the CFCU in Lansing has been identified. The white male seen in a security video “is no longer a person of interest in relation to the case,” says the Sheriff’s Office in a release.

In the incident on Wednesday afternoon, a black male, about six feet tall, “entered the credit union, approached employees, displayed a handgun, and demanded money.” He fled the scene with an undetermined amount of money and was last seen running northeast on Sheraton Drive, east of the Triphammer Marketplace.

Anyone with information that could help with the investigation or identify the black male suspect is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 607-257-1345,  the non-emergency line at the Tompkins County 911 dispatch center at 607-272-2444, or the Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 607-266-5420.
