“Heavy, wet snow” heading to Ithaca via “significant winter storm”

A “significant winter storm” is heading for Ithaca and Central New York, according to meteorologist Drew Montreuil of Finger Lakes Weather, and “very wet, heavy snow” is likely for this storm. Drew says heavy snow is likely tonight through about 7am Tuesday.

Ithaca is in a band that’s likely to get 7 inches to a foot of snow, and it will be very heavy snow, Drew says. He says people should “use extreme caution shoveling, as back injuries and heart attacks can result from overexertion in this type of snow.”

With the storm heading our way, some school districts have announced they’re cancelling after school activities.

If temperatures stay a little warmer than forecast, the precipitation will be mixed, leading to less snow accumulation.
