Thousands around Ithaca without power after transformer fire

NYSEG says about 2,300 customers in Tompkins County are without power this afternoon after officials reported a transformer fire and a downed utility pole in the Forest Home area.

Update: NYSEG says power has been restored to most customers as of about 3:30pm.

About a thousand customers have power out in the City of Ithaca, nearly 500 in Cayuga Heights, plus several hundred more in the Village and Town of Lansing. Initially, only about 600 customers were reported without power.

The affected areas include those around the Cornell campus, Collegetown, and northeast Ithaca. Remember if you come to a traffic light with no power, you have to treat it as an all way stop!

NYSEG is estimating power will be restored in most areas at about 3:45 or 4:45 this afternoon.
