After-school and evening activities canceled for several area districts

Cortland, Newfield, and Newark Valley schools are dismissing early, and several area school districts have started to announce they’re cancelling after-school and evening activities, as snow is expected to turn to sleet and freezing rain this afternoon, leading to icy conditions.

Newfield Central School District is dismissing early today at 1pm. There will be no after-school or evening activities.

Newark Valley Central School District is closing early today, dismissing Middle School at 1pm, High School at 1:15, and Elementary School at 2:15.

Cortland Enlarged City School District is closing early. Junior and Senior High at 1pm, Elementary Schools at 2pm. No PM BOCES. No after school activities. Board of Education meeting rescheduled to Tuesday, January 17th.

The following districts have let 14850 and WVBR know they are cancelling after-school activities on Tuesday, January 10th:

Trumansburg Central School District
Lansing Central School District
Namaste Montessori School
Southern Cayuga Central School District
Corning Painted Post Area School District
Watkins Glen Central School District
Whitney Point Central School District
Spencer – Van Etten Central School District

Spencer – Van Etten’s girls and boys Varsity and JV Basketball games have been rescheduled for Thursday, January 12th. The Y program is still open.

Ithaca City School District’s Board of Education meeting will begin at 6pm.

Tompkins County officials report that Freese Road is closed between Hanshaw Road and Dryden Road (Route 366) this afternoon due to a water main break. Crews are working to repair the break, but officials expect the road will be closed until at least 6pm.

Remember to clear all the snow off your car, especially all lights and windows, and turn on your lights when driving in bad weather.
