Ithaca music promoter DSP Shows breaks Top 100 in the world

Ithaca’s not the world’s biggest music scene, but it does get a steady stream of great performers, and that’s thanks in no small part to DSP Shows. This past week, the local promoter was named to Pollstar’s list of Top 100 Promoters in the World.

Dan Smalls, founder of the firm formerly known as Dan Smalls Presents, credits his team for the hard work they put in day in and day out to plan and execute a grueling schedule, usually several shows a week.

The Pollstar ranking is based on ticket sales volume, and DSP Shows hit the #99 spot on the worldwide list for 2017. Live Nation tops the list at #1 with 52,492,301. “DSP moved 132,101 tickets across their various venues to break into the Top 100 Worldwide for the first time,” Dan tells us. “This is a massive accomplishment.”

He adds that three of DSP’s venue partners were recognized in Pollstar’s year-end rankings. The State Theatre hit #195 on the Top 200 Theatres list, Daryl’s House in Pawling climbed to #114 on the Top 200 Clubs list, and the Haunt was at #168 on the clubs list for 2017.

Just a few years ago, the State Theatre seemed poised to face a wrecking ball, but now it regularly hosts sellout crowds for national touring music. “I feel pretty proud about helping to save her,” Dan says.

“Live music continues to demonstrate its growing popularity making 2017 a record crushing year for the concert business,” said Pollstar in its announcement.

“We are proud to share this recognition with our great venue partners and are working hard to bring you more great shows in 2018 and beyond,” says Dan Smalls.
